LUMINOUS AXIS
Luminous Axis, A Symphony of Movement
The 2024 SeoulLight Gwanghwamun Media Art Project, “Luminous Symphony,” based on the historical context of Gwanghwamun, artistically encapsulates the present and future vision of Seoul. It serves as the embodiment of kairos: an opportune moment manifested through the interplay of light and sound, interaction and vibration, and audience participation. This event is crafted through contemporary media art, offering a synesthetic experience that transcends the boundaries of the senses. State-of-the-art media technologies, including addressable LEDs, projection mapping, and generative AI, are intertwined with traditions such as classical music, Korean traditional music (gugak), and sound art, achieving a harmonious fusion of media and musical genres. In doing so, this project broadens the sensibilities of contemporary audiences and offers an innovative artistic experience that explores new possibilities for Gwanghwamun.

The journey of light begins from the central axis, evolving continuously with the passage of time.
The delicate shifts in wavelength produce a vibrant spectrum, resembling a masterpiece bestowed by nature.
The light radiating outward from the axis undergoes repeated refraction and reflection, transforming into an even more vivid and dazzling spectacle.
As the sun sets and darkness descends, this celebration of light reaches its crescendo, turning the entire square into a breathtaking stage of illumination.
This scene is reminiscent of a majestic symphony orchestra.
The various elements of light harmonize like individual instruments, conducting an unprecedented light symphony of scale and beauty.
This surreal orchestra of light awakens the senses and offers an indelible experience to all who behold it.
